For Hanson, the trio of teeny-bopper brother's from Oklahoma, it's going
to be hard to avoid heartthrob status, because, well, they're all pretty
dreamy. All of them have hair of gold, like Kurt Cobain, the youngest one
in braids.
Check them out in their oddly fascinating video for "MMMBop",
an absurdly catchy pop tune that is in perpetual rotation on MTV. The clip
mixes shots of the three fervently playing in their band with scenes of
brotherly goofing off.
That's real goofing off, according to 11-year-old Zac: "We were
acting weird, and [director Tamra Davis] would say, 'Just do that in slow
motion,' or something."
Some "MMMBop" video fun facts (Collect 'em! Trade 'em!):
(1) Yes, they really wrote that song. "We all sing, we all write,
we all play, and we're all equally involved," says 16-year old
Isaac.
(2) The skating wipeout was real. "Definitely all real," says
Zac.
(3) Acoording to 13-year-old Taylor, the car that he "drives"
in the video is Sandra Bullock's Speed 2 car.
With Hanson's major-label debut, Middle of Nowhere, out for only a few
weeks, their lives haven't changed much yet. The biggest difference, so
far, is more e-mail. "We get both sides - the 'Oh, I hate you guys,
you stink' side and'You guys are so awesome,' " says Taylor. "The
positve outweighs the negative by far."
"The thing you always have to remember is that it can all be gone in
a moment," adds Isaac wisely. Still, the group's burgeoning fame
is sitting wellwith Zac. "There are more fans, more fun - just more,"
he says.
There are also more Hanson siblings back home in Tulsa. Drummer Zac is keeping an eye on 3-year-old brother Mackie. "He's got the rhythm," says Zac. "I've got to watch out. He'll steal my place."
